Dear Students, Parents/Guardians,
It was great seeing you at our school Mass on Friday! We keep all our grandparents in our prayers and thank God for the gift they are to us. Catechetical Sunday is coming up next weekend on Sunday, 9/16. Our faculty will be present at 11am Mass, and we hope to see you and your families there to see our teachers receive a special blessing as catechists in our community!
Now is the wonderful time that students and teachers begin to set in to the normalcy of the academic schedule. Expectations for students go up as the initial excitement of starting a new year starts to taper off. We have noticed an increase as a whole on students arriving on time to class, but we still ask for your partnership in making sure students arrive in time for morning assembly at 7:50 am, (and before Mass on Fridays) so teachers and students can start their day on the right note. Again – we have a strict policy on this matter: 3 tardies will equal “Tardy Time” served on Wednesday detention days after school. Please see our Handbook policy on this.
We are so excited to continue our performing arts program for our Jr. High Arts Alive classes for guitar, piano, dance and show band. It’s an honor to integrate the arts into our curriculum and if all goes well, the program will continue next year. Students will perform onstage at our next General Parent meeting in February.
At Back to School Night, I hope you had a chance to learn the policies, procedures, and grading scale set forth by your child’s teacher. The slide show from the Hall is posted online at our school website, in case you wanted to revisit what was discussed and some important items that we didn’t get to speak about. Thanks to all who visited the Vicki Marsha Uniform sale. You can always buy Vicki Marsha Scrip in the office. Please check the website or talk to Mr. Aguilar, our Finance Secretary, for more info on how to fundraise this way and pay down your tuition through Scrip. Last week we completed our first STAR testing window. Thanks for helping us monitor your child’s progress. Your child’s progress report and STAR scores will be given to you at Parent Teacher Conferences the first week of October!

As I mentioned at Back to School Night – I am extremely confident and proud of our team of educators, as well as our family-oriented community. I feel truly blessed to have my own children attending St. Anthony’s and to be a part of such a long tradition of excellence. We are the BEST!
We as a staff are conducting ongoing major safety drills including (Fire, Earthquake, Intruder/Lockdown). Please note that in the case of a mass emergency (such as an earthquake) it is best NOT to come immediately to the school, as we will have a controlled, prepared environment for our students. There will be a parent “pick-up” location off of 161st Street and students will be admitted to parents directly at the gate with a number of checklists to ensure we maintain proper count of our students. In an emergency, this process could take a while. We ask for your patience and trust in advance. Parents, please sign up on the REMIND app.
SCHOOL EMERGENCY ITEMS
It is important that we work to be prepared for any and all possible emergencies that may take place during the school day. We have completed our initial emergency drills to start the year and are working on fine-tuning. One important item is in the case of a student lockdown. This event could happen for multiple reasons, but ultimately results in our students having to remain sheltered in their classroom for an extended period of time. We are asking that you bring a Ziploc bag of snacks, in the event that we have to detain students for a longer time. This food in Emergency kits will remain in the classroom all year long.
OPEN DOOR POLICY/CHAIN OF COMMAND
As Msgr. Sal mentioned at Back to School Night, we want to honor our teachers and their positions as professionals. Thus, the chain of command starts with the teachers, and then moves up through the Vice Principal, Principal, and Pastor. I am always willing to help resolve any issues and address concerns, but I do ask that you meet with your child’s teacher first if there is an issue that a teacher can help resolve. You can always copy me and involve me as needed.
Effective communication is key, and I do my best to make myself available to meet with students, teachers and parents to ensure the proper educational and social development of your children. To efficiently do this, I ask that you EMAIL me at email@example.com to schedule an in-person meeting or I can schedule a time to call you. Please allow at least a 24- hour turnaround time for responses, excluding weekends and holidays. Keep in mind that evenings are reserved for family time for all faculty and staff. For safety reasons, please do not have meetings during carline or when teachers are on lunch/recess duty or teaching students.
As a reminder – please be sure your child is following the school uniform policy. NON-UNIFORM attire is not allowed. Girls may only wear stud earrings and boys must have regulation haircuts. Please refer to the Uniform section in the Parent Student Handbook. 3 uniform warnings/infractions will result in a detention and this will affect your child’s chance to earn the Citizenship Award in a given trimester. Any exceptions must be approved by administration.
