Dearest Parents,
It was great to see everyone last week when school returned after the break! Thank you for the extra sacrifices you have to make to prepare your children to get back into school mode! It was great to have them start a short week to transition to a full week. Lastly, thank you so much for the donations of baby wipes!
Below, please find attached our weekly Newsletter and some other attachments. Some announcements/reminders follow:
–Homework: This week’s high frequency words are review from last week. Please note that I’ve sent home last week and attached to this blog a support sheet for some of these words that sound the same, but are spelled and used differently (There Homophones).
–High Frequency Words: If you notice, there are only 3 days worth of HF homework in their packet. I started to give students time to begin their sentences in class on Tuesdays as part of their High Frequency homework packet. They bring their sentences home to complete as homework and turn it in on Friday with the rest of their work.
–Math: Math Guides are also sent home today to support them with this week’s homework. I resent the CUBES guide (attached below as well) for word problems in case you cannot locate the one I sent awhile back.
–Word Work: There is no word work homework this week. We will still go over concepts in class this week and they will have their quiz on Friday.
–Reading HW: Please have them keep up with at least 20 minutes of reading at home. They are able to come in to quiz on books that are part of the AR system to earn points toward their reading goals. They are expected to reach the goal by March 8th.-2nd Grade Prayers: Please have students learn their prayers from the pink booklet in their folders with emphasis on the Act of Contrition. You can support them by having them recite the prayers daily.
–Reading Test: We are wrapping up our Fables and Folktales Unit and will be having a test this Friday on recounting stories and identifying the moral of a story.
–Library Policy: Late books will need to be returned in the School’s office and signed off by a parent or guardian. 25 cents is charged for each day it is late. Please make sure that students always have their library books in their backpacks for daily reading in class and especially on Wednesdays when we go to the library to check in/check out books to avoid late fees and effects on their Work Habits grade. Thank you in advance!
–Mass Dress Pass: Thank you for your attendance at our school Masses on every 1st Sunday of the month. It truly feels like a bigger community beyond our classroom walls. In regards to the dress passes for attendance, I think there might have been some confusion about when to use the Free Dress Pass for School Masses. Just to clarify, Mrs. Garcia had sent an email earlier this Trimester stating that students must use the Free Dress Pass the following Tuesday. Moving forward, please keep to this guideline. Thanks so much!
–Parent Formation Retreats: Thank you to those who had attended our Parent Formation Retreat. If you were unable to make it for any reason, I will be reaching out with other dates. Thank you in advance for your flexibility and commitment to preparing your child for the Sacraments!
-2nd Grade Photos: I will be emailing you access to a google drive folder I had created to drop off 2nd Grade Photos of various occasions this school year (Halloween, All Saints’ Day, Christmas, etc). Since I am not much of a picture person, it would be helpful to have your photos for yearbook! Feel free to add to this folder anytime. Thanks so much!!
If I had forgotten anything else, please let me know. In addition, I’m alway open to hearing if you have any concerns or questions.
Love and prayers,
Sr. Tina
