Dearest 2nd Grade Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back to a new week of school! Hoping you all had a chance to rest over the weekend! Although this week will be a short one since there will be no school Friday due to Professional Development, we are looking at a week full of events! Please find attached our Weekly Newsletter and note the following announcements/reminders:
CLASSROOM ANNOUNCMENTS:
-STAR Testing: This is our last week for STAR Testing. Please continue to make sure your child is getting adequate rest and a good breakfast!
-AR Reports: I will be preparing another updated AR report to send home this week. Just to clarify, students are allowed to any books that are found on arbookfind.com! To check if a book checked out at the public library or a book from home is AR, please go to the website mentioned above and search the title. If it is listed, there is a quiz students can take in class to earn points toward their goal! However, please make sure that the books are within your child’s level by checking the Book Level (BL) on arbookfind.com. Students do well on quizzes if they are making sure they are understanding what they are reading and recalling details from the text. Encourage them to ask questions about unfamiliar words and to review details in the text before coming in to quiz.
-OPTIONAL Valentine’s goodies: This Thursday, students are allowed to bring in goodie bags or Valentine’s cards to pass out at the end of the day! Please be aware that there are some students who are allergic to peanuts, all kinds of tree nuts, or egg as you prepare the goodie bags. Goodie bags do not have to be restricted to snacks, but can also have practical things students might be able to use in class (i.e. erasers, Valentine themed pencils, etc.) Please just have students drop off their goodie bags at the beginning of school inside the classroom.
–First Reconciliation: There has been a recent time change from 6-8pm to 5-7pm on Monday, March 25th, due to scheduling conflicts. The date remains, but the time has been shifted up an hour earlier. Please note this time change on your calendar!
SCHOOL BUSINESS/EVENTS:
–Parent Surveys: We really appreciate everything you do and your input and respectful feedback is valuable to building our school community. We encourage you to take a few moments to respond to our parent survey that was sent via email last January from the school. The link is copied here again for your convenience: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSelTN2pa130ZrssW7Y6cpbhH5MVieI_BcBe7RMYk3Cp8cQaxg/viewform?usp=sf_link. THANKS SO MUCH!!!
–Valentine’s Day on Thursday 2/14: Red/Pink T-shirts Day! Make sure students can run and stretch in their free dress clothes! If students choose not to wear red/pink, they are asked to wear their PE uniforms.
-Kids Heart Challenge: I encourage you to register your child online to take on the Heart Challenge to promote health and also supporting those who have heart problems! If we can get at least 100 students to register, students will get to duct tape a teacher! Students will be taking on their challenges this week during PE!
–Special Person’s Semi-Formal Dance: Please mark March 2nd on your calendars for our Family Social and Silent Auction night! 2nd Grade will be offering 2 auction baskets!!
Basket 1: Ride with Sr. Tina on the Pablo-mobile and spending lunch with her and another friend at the Poor Claire’s Convent!
