Good afternoon first grade families,
Blessed Saturday! I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend with your family. Below are some reminders that you and your child will need for this week, 10/04-10/08. This week will be NOON DISMISSAL because of our Parent-Teacher conference. Friday, Oct 8th will be students’ free day so no school on that day.
LMU fieldwork observation permission slips (DUE Monday, Oct. 4)
As you all know, I am working to earn my preliminary credential and my master’s degree at LMU. On Tuesday, October 5th, I will be observed by a fieldwork instructor through Zoom for our Math lesson in the morning. Although the Zoom would show both me and various students, the primary focus is on my instruction, not on the students in the class. In the course of recording, your child may appear on the video. Also, I will be asked to submit samples of some of my students’ work as evidence of the quality of my teaching practice, and the student work samples may include some of your child’s work. No student names will appear on any materials that are submitted. All materials will be kept confidential.
I would like you to please read, sign and return the Permission Form to document your permission for these activities. I put the document in your child’s blue homework folder I will collect it on Monday, October 4th. If I fail to collect all the signed permission slips, it will result in a cancellation of my observation.
Out on Thursday- Ms. Patrice will sub
I will be out on Thursday, Oct 7th due to some important personal matters. Mrs. Ray will also be out on this day. Ms. Patrice Campbell will be subbing for me and Mrs. Naima Elfarissi (Mrs. E.) will be aiding her. Please help me remind your child to show their best behavior and show respect to our sub- teachers. I will make sure to do the same. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me and I’ll try my best to respond to you as soon as I can.
Homework
This week will be busy and short because of our parent-teacher conferences. We will be reviewing all of our previous lessons. Please make sure to check the activities on your child’s Homework Weekly list placed in their blue homework folder.
Math
There will be Math homework on Monday & Tuesday but nothing for Wednesday & Thursday (Please see the assigned pages on your child’s homework weekly list)
Reading
No reading homework! But I will still encourage all students to read on Raz-kids or EPIC! For extra practice.
Sight words (WEEKS 1-5)
Please make sure your child will use our October menu. For this week, there are no specific words assigned but instead students will choose any 6 random words from weeks 1-5. Kindly make sure your child will choose different words from the list and activities from the menu every day. They will submit all of these activities on Thursday on Seesaw, 1 post, 4 pages with dates on each. And put it under “Fluency (Sight words)” folder on Seesaw.
I highly encourage training your child to submit their own work on Seesaw, taking a picture, uploading work, adding pages and typing the date or name of the activity. Our first graders should be able to do it independently.
Test
Sight Words- Students will be tested on their Sight words weeks 1-5. Words will be picked randomly. You may help your child by reviewing all these words at home.
