Dear SAP School Families,
I hope you are all enjoying your summer and keeping cool! Our school renovations are well underway, and we are so excited to see the progress over the past 2 weeks.
We are so grateful to the Shea Family Charities (SFC) for their amazing grant to our school to give us a new soccer field and modernize our offices and 11 classrooms! The demolition in the classrooms started the last 2 weeks. This weekend, the rooms will begin to get painted. The garage and bungalow will be demolished starting July 5. If you drive by the school, you can see the progress. The work on the soccer field begins next week.
We hope we don’t have to start the first week of school on Zoom, but if we do, we will communicate that with you early on. We want to give the teachers enough time to set up their classrooms before the first day of school. We are hoping that all major construction work is done by 8/22. At that time, we will need parent volunteers to help us move furniture back into classrooms and set up for the first day of school on 8/29 (you can earn service hours for this). Service hours are now valued at $15/hour, not $10/hour like before.
Before 8/22, however, we have also contracted with Vancrest Construction, per Msgr. Sal’s request to paint ALL doors for ALL classrooms and rooms, as well as ceilings, and the interior of each room. They will be power washing the whole school and making it look brand new! This work is for an additional cost and the school will be paying for this expense out of pocket.
Next week, we will need parent volunteers to help with moving furniture out of the rooms not being renovated like Rm 5, 6, 16, the RE offices, and the faculty room. We need the rooms empty for the painting to take place. Our custodian, Pablo Flores, is here till July 14, but then he goes on vacation, so he will need help starting next Tuesday July 5 through July 14. If you are available, please let us know so you can earn service hours for the coming year. You can email the office and we can set up a sign up Genius for you to help in the next 2 weeks.
All that said, this means that on top of our school share of $50,000, we will also be paying an extra $60,000 for the renovations of the school as part of our share to the entire renovation project. This money will come from our fundraising efforts scheduled for next year (chocolates, holiday cash raffle, EFG, and JAT), so please keep that overall goal in mind as we fundraise for this amazing renovation project that will have a grand total of over $1.5 million, and make our school shine even more!
In other news, I want to also welcome our new RESIDENT PRINCIPAL, Thomas Lynch, from the Onward Leaders Program, funded by the Smet Foundation. He will be my right hand and counterpart this coming school year working with me as a co-principal. I am thrilled to have him at St. Anthony’s and today, July 1, is his first official day on the job!
I look forward to having him at our school and working with him in the coming year. There is so much to be excited about and to be hopeful about.
Please note that Summer Office Hours are Monday-Thursday from 8am-12 noon. I will be working remotely next week and will be on vacation starting July 11.
Teachers and staff return to work on August 1.
Have a wonderful July 4 weekend and stay safe! Happy Summer!
God bless,
Mrs. Grey
