Dear Students, Parents/Guardians,
Last Monday was our school’s Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 10am to celebrate the completion of our new school facilities. Bishop Marc Trudeau and our generous donors from the Shea Family Charities and other organizations like the Smet Foundation, St. Sebastian Sports Project, and the Steinmetz Foundation were at this milestone event. The special guests included Msgr. Sal Pilato, Fr. Pirrone, Fr. Paolo, DCS representatives like Mr. Erick Rublcava and Ms. Barbara Barreda, Presidents from 2 Catholic high schools (PMA and Serra), Mr. Deloera (former Asst Principal at SAP), Ann Thomas, and Officer Villanueva, who toured the preschool and our school with the Poor Clare Sisters. It was an amazing event, and even the Gardena Valley News covered it! Thank you so much to our Hospitality and Welcoming PLC. Our incredible team of parent volunteers were led by Amy Lucas Palanca and Lorraine Manguiat. Everyone loved the experience! We got so much positive feedback and comments about how beautiful our students looked and how respectfully they behaved.
Thank you to all who supported the 5th grade El Pollo Inka fundraiser last Tuesday. The class earned $665! Last week we celebrated our All School Mass for the Feast of St. Francis. This Thursday, we will have our All School Mass on 10/13 (not Friday) for the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima’s Miracle of the Sun. Students are asked to come to school dressed in their Formal Mass Uniforms this Thursday. Please don’t forget to make sure your child wears a tie and for girls, that their skirts are at regulation length.
Our Fall Candy Sale continues. Congratulations to all those who won the Trojan Drawings last Wed 10/5! Those who turn in their money by this Friday 10/14, will qualify for the Second of two Trojan Drawings. This last prize drawing will take place Wed, 10/19 at 1:10pm. More info on this will come from Angelic Nunez-Scott and Monica Torres, our Candy Sale PLC leads.
Our Resident Principal, Mr. Lynch, continues to do uniform inspections on campus. As stated in our meeting and to your children in person, three (3) uniform infractions equal one detention. A detention disqualifies a child from earning Citizenship in that particular trimester. Please make sure your child is following all uniform guidelines. We ask all parents to read the Parent Student Handbook with their child and pay close attention to the school’s uniform policy. Administration reserves the right to make the final call on what is appropriate and not appropriate, according to the policy and ADLA uniform guidelines for Catholic schools. Students can express individuality on Free Dress Days, as long as they are within the free dress guidelines. Students may not have colored or dyed hair or blonde highlights, natural hair colors only.
Veronica Patel hosted a Zoom meeting last week for all current 6th and 7th graders who intend to go to our next Washington DC trip in April 2024. Thank you for attending the meeting and planning ahead for your child to attend this memorable junior high trip that we take every 2 years!
Thank you to our Interior Maintenance PLC, led by Claudia Guzman and Priscilla Ortiz. Our incredible volunteers cleaned our classrooms from 12:30-3:30pm at the school this past Saturday. We appreciate you!

UNIFORMS
Our teachers and administration continue to enforce the uniform policy. Boys and girls should have hair that is neatly groomed. No extravagant hairstyles or colors, natural colors only (no highlights or dyed hair allowed). Boys with longer hair must not have it in their face or covering their eyes or ears (see info in the Handbook about the Crown Act). Girls should not have nail polish or long/fake nails, dangling earrings (only one stud earring per ear), or wear jewelry (only religious jewelry allowed). No excessive bracelets on arms, only one simple bracelet (like a rosary bracelet). No ankle socks allowed at all, or prints or fluorescent colors on shoes. 3 uniform infractions will result in a detention and that affects the Work Habits Grade and Citizenship. Please refer to the Parent Student Handbook for the proper uniform guidelines for the 2022-2023 school year. Students may use Free Dress passes if an infraction is given, and they will be excused. Administration reserves the right to make the final decision on uniforms.
