Principal’s Message – 3/13/2023

March 13, 2023 By agrey Leave a Comment

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Yesterday was Daylight Savings Time (Spring Forward!); hopefully you adjusted your clocks and are looking forward to spring! Beginning today is the third trimester of the school year. The 2nd Trimester Mass and Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday, 3/24 in the church. We cordially invite all families to attend. That day, report cards will be sent home. Msgr. Sal wants to pass them out in all classes after the Mass.

As a school, we were thrilled to witness some of our students perform, dance, sing, and display their incredible talents for us during our Talent Show on 3/9. There is no denying that each and every one of our children possesses unique God-given gifts. Congratulations on a great show and thanks to Mrs. Garcia for planning it. We were so impressed by our students! Our 8th graders had a special presentation at the end and we think it may be a new tradition!

As we enter the fourth week of Lent, I pray you are all savoring this precious opportunity to spend time with Jesus. It’s essential to look at all the attributes of the Holy Spirit and to grow in holiness during this special time. Every Friday in Lent, we have an all school Stations of the Cross at 1:15pm in the Church, followed by Benediction. Stations of the Cross will also be held at St. Anthony of Padua Parish every Friday evening in the church at 7pm, along with a Fish Fry in the Hall from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.  Pre-sale tickets are $9 after Mass. Price goes up at the door. We are selling tickets at the school for the 3/24 Fish Fry, so buy them early at the front office!

On March 30, we have Spring Picture day. Students who are ordering pictures may come to school in their Sunday best. Everyone else must come in their school uniform if they haven’t ordered spring photos. Students attending the Shrek Field trip in grades K–5 on 3/30 can keep wearing their spring picture attire as they will be going on a field trip. They should also bring a SAP School sweater so they are identified at the field trip as a SAP student.  On 3/31 from 9:00 to 10:00 am is 8th grade pictures, students must wear their cap and gowns. Students will wear their Sunday best underneath their cap and gown. There is no makeup for these 8th grade pictures.

Open Enrollment to the public began last week on March 1. If you did not register, your child has been automatically waitlisted. Those on a registration hold may not register until the hold is lifted by administration. All accounts must be current in order for your child to re-register as well. Finally, Yearbooks are now $40. Reserve your hardcover Yearbook now by sending a check made payable to the School with an order form.

We are finalizing the EFG participants this and next week. We should be announcing the winners and setting up the pizza and ice cream parties soon for our top classes! Thanks for your patience.

Kindergarten goes to the Long Beach Aquarium today. We hope they have a safe and fun trip!

Blessings,
Mrs. Grey and Mr. Lynch

SCHOOL DONATIONS AND SERVICE HOURS

For families looking to pay off their service hour commitment, our school gives the option to buy Scrip/gift cards and donate them to SAP. We buy a lot of materials and supplies from Office Depot, Walmart/Sam’s Club, Home Depot, Starbucks, and Target for much needed supplies, so if you buy Scrip valued at $15/hour and donate it to the school to offset costs, we will credit your service hour account. We are always in need of Yard Duty, Daycare, and Traffic PLC volunteers.

IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFO for RETURNING FAMILIES

Re-Registration for current students is now complete. All registration forms need to be filled out online via FACTS. If you have questions, please email Mr. Aguilar. Those with registration holds may not register for next year until your hold is expressly lifted by administration. Open Enrollment to the public began on 3/1/23. Those not registered are automatically waitlisted.

KEEPING HANDS TO SELF, PERSONAL SPACE

Students have been reminded multiple times by me and their teachers that they need to keep their hands, feet, and all objects to themselves. If students are touching each other in any way, it could lead to detention or a referral. Please see the handbook. Remind your kids to keep their hand to themselves and stay in their bubble/personal space at all times. This is becoming a safety issue.

CELL PHONES NOT ALLOWED, SOCIAL MEDIA NOT A GOOD IDEA

Parents, please note that NO student in our K-8 school needs a cell phone. We have landlines available for their use. If a child is seen using their cell phone on campus it will be confiscated and will result in a referral on the progressive discipline chart. Your child’s use of devices should be limited at home (the doctor recommendation is 2 hours a day) and should only be used with direct supervision by a trusted adult. Do not let your child sleep with a device. Access to social media is NOT a good idea. Please monitor your child’s use at home. If their behavior online violates our Acceptable Use Policy, there will be serious consequences. NO EXCEPTIONS. Inappropriate behavior can lead to suspension or dismissal. Review the Christian Code of Conduct and Parent Student Pledge.
