Hello Families!
This week the kids enjoyed learning about measurements, using cylinders to pour out liters, a scale to measure grams, and rulers to measure their items! The children also had their Easter Celebration with an Easter-egg hunt on the soccer field. Thank you Mrs. Ng, Mrs. Sandoval, Ms. Diaz, Mrs. Nuñez, and Mrs. Andrade for making that happen! The kids loved it!
This week also started our Marian Consecration! This is a beautiful time for the children to devote themselves to Mary! Each day we pray in class a special prayer to unite ourselves to Mary before the Our Lady of Fatima Feast Day on May 13th. Please continue to pray on the weekend! Attached below are prayers for the children. We have had 6th grade and 8th grade come in this week to help explain to the children the importance of prayer and how to give our hearts to Mary. Photos below as well! Here is a video done by the Richardson family explaining the consecration https://youtu.be/FK2wXa5mPVc?feature=shared
This Week
Drone Demo
The Gardena Police Department will be at the school on Tuesday at 1:00 to show the children how they use drones to keep the streets safe and do investigations!
Lemonade War
Children will begin reading our novel Lemonade War this week in class. We will finish the novel mid-May and then students will have a week to prepare for the Lemonade War Stands on May 28th! Students will be broken into 2 groups and each group will be responsible for bringing lemonade, a poster, and any other things they would like to sell. (more details to come).
Part of the novel study is compiling their vocabulary and chapter summaries throughout the week in a Lemonade War Folder (given in class). Attached is a Lemonade War Folder Checklist. Students will be expected to hole-punch their work and add it to the folder to have a completed project and book report by the end. Many of the pages the kids will have time to do in class, but if they do not finish in class, will be expected to do for homework. Each week the students will write an in-class paragraph draft on Thursday summarizing the chapters read, then the final draft on Friday. In the last week of the project, the students will be given time to type their paragraphs into a book report to submit on May 28th.
Progress reports
Progress reports are coming out next Tuesday. We have just started the Third Trimester, so this is just a snapshot early on of their performance in class. If they have any make-up work or re-submissions have them come after school to tutoring on Monday or Thursday from 3:00-4:00.
