Dear Eight Grade Class and Families,
Blessed Sunday! Tuesday, August 20 is our first day of school and your last at St. Anthony’s! Can’t believe that 5 years ago you were just 3rd graders, but now you are the graduating class of our school.
This year our goal is to LEARN, COMMIT, and DO (repeat). This is the upward spiral of personal growth and change according to Stephen R. Covey. As your homeroom teacher, I pray and hope that we work as one team. Your effort, trust, and transparency would be crucial keys to have an amazing year ahead. I am looking forward to working with you all.
On another note, kindly read the following important reminders.
What to bring on the first day of school?
* completed summer packet (all subjects)
— Teachers will grade them within the first week of school.
* small bag with materials required for Religion and Science only.
* no device/s
* emergency kits
* snacks for the day
* community supplies (if you haven’t dropped off yours)
PARENT IMPORTANT FORMS
On the first day of school, your child will be bringing home several important forms that require your attention. These forms need to be read, completed, and signed.
Please note: All completed and signed forms are due back to the school by Friday, August 23.
To show our appreciation for your prompt attention to these forms, students who return all the completed forms by the due date will earn a Free Dress Pass.
Junior High Syllabus
Grades 6-8 students will receive a junior high syllabus with universal policies, school rules, and academic expectations. Additionally, students will be given a syllabus from each teacher: Ms. Garcia (Science and Religion), Ms. Griggs (Math), and Ms. Hernandez (ELA and Social Studies).
Please thoroughly read each syllabus with your child to ensure a good understanding of the school and classroom expectations. Academic policies will vary among subjects.
The acknowledgement form must be submitted as soon as possible in order for me to keep my record. The signed portion of the syllabus will also count for their Religion grade.
Junior high students will have a review quiz based on the syllabus on Wednesday.
Gradelink/Work Policy
Grades will be uploaded a few days a week to maintain consistency throughout the school year. This will help you and your child stay informed of the class’s current status.
If your child is absent for an assignment or exam, the assignment will be marked as a zero until it is completed.
Junior high is universally applying a “no late work” policy. Late work will not be accepted. This aims to enhance each student’s work effort and ethic and give them and their parents an accurate view of their progress. Deadlines will be communicated to students to provide them enough time to complete. This rule helps to instill a sense of responsibility and accountability in the students. Maintaining a fair and consistent grading system to uphold academic integrity is essential.
Enforcing a no-late-work policy helps prepare students for the expectations and rigors of high school and college. Late work is typically not accepted in these higher education settings, so teaching students the importance of meeting deadlines early on can better prepare them for future academic endeavors.
