Welcome to the Fourth Grade Home Page!
My name is John Farley, and this will be my first year as the Fourth Grade Teacher. I am excited to be joining the faculty at St. Anthony of Padua School and community! Through my past work in tutoring and working with the students on the autism spectrum, I discovered my passion for teaching. As an educator, I offer a mindful, collaborative, and empathetic approach to teaching. I also believe in giving students responsibility for their own learning (with my guidance of course). I am also a huge proponent of character education and Social-Emotional Learning. I believe that the role of a teacher is not only to develop minds, but hearts as well. As Aristotle wrote, “educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.”
I received my Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts at West Valley Community College in Saratoga, CA. I went on to receive a double major in History and Humanities at California State University, Sacramento. I then attended UC Davis and earned a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Classics (Greek and Latin). I am currently enrolled in a teaching credential program through Cal State TEACH which I will finish this year.
In my free time, I enjoy playing music – particularly singing and playing the African Djembe drums. I am a classically-trained vocalist, and have sang and performed various church and university choirs. In 2006, I was blessed to receive the opportunity to perform solo at Carnegie Hall in New York. I also enjoy reading, hiking, and traveling.
I look forward to continuing to share my passion for teaching at St. Anthony of Padua school!
