Accelerated Reader is a reading program that all students K-8 participate in. Using data from STAR tests, students receive a “ZPD” (Zone of Proximal Development) level to help them choose books that are just right for them. Using this ZPD, students choose books to read independently. Once they finish a book, they use iPads to take a short comprehension quiz. After completing the quiz, they receive points based on their score. These points help students reach their “point goal,” a number of points students should earn in a trimester, as decided by the teacher and student.
