Junior High Christian Service Hours
As part of their religion grade, students in grades 6-8 are invited to serve others in the larger school, church, and civic community. Christian service hours are normally conducted outside of regular school hours and are motivated by our love for Jesus. Students complete a Christian Service Reflection Form to help them think about how their service is a gift to others.
Students will be asked to reflect on how their Christian Service relates to the Seven Themes of Catholic Social Teaching (links below). Students will choose one theme that best connects to their service. Students will also reflect on one scripture verse from those provided to connect the Word of God to service.
- Life and Dignity of the Human Person
- Call to Family, Community, and Participation
- Rights and Responsibilities
- Option for the Poor and Vulnerable
- The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers
- Solidarity
- Care for Creation
Local community events such as volunteering at senior centers, participating in school-sponsored service projects, joining organized community clean-ups and serving in church choirs or as altar servers are all part of Christian Service.
