Hello 4th grade – 8th grade Families,
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break and a fantastic start of 2019! Your students have been working out in new ways this 2018-2019 school year in their PE classes, and I do see improvements in many of the student’s physical abilities. I ask that you encourage your students to be physically active for a minimum of 60 minutes each day when they do not have PE. This can include: playing outdoors, sports, riding their bikes, running, etc… The students are also aware that they should be doing their P.E. homework daily, which includes: 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups, 10 squats, and 20-25 jumping jacks. Completing the homework each day will help them to achieve a good score on their next fitness test, which will be taken close to the end of our second trimester, and again at the end of our third and final trimester for this school year.
This year I want to begin to focus on nutrition as we continue to build our physical capabilities, as these both go hand in hand. During their P.E. classes this past week I assigned your students homework. The assignment is to take a picture of the Nutrition Label of THEIR Favorite Snack, and print it out. They need to highlight the: Serving Size, Servings Per Container if applicable, Calories, Total Fat, Sodium, Carbohydrates, Sugar, and Protein. The picture needs to be large enough to read all contents including the ingredients. If they are not able to print out a picture, then they can write down all of the Nutrition Facts including the ingredients. The assignment is due during their class next week and is worth 15 points. If their favorite snack happens to be a fruit or vegetable then they need to do a search on the internet to find those nutrition facts. I recommend this website for fruits and veggies. https://www.fda.gov/Food/LabelingNutrition/ucm063367.htm
I would appreciate your partnership as we work toward helping your child reach their greatest potential in mind, body and spirit. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
God Bless,
Mrs. Rubalcava =’mso-bidi-font
