Dear Students, Parents/Guardians,
Today, 9/27 is a STUDENT FREE DAY. There is no school due to our faculty preparing for our WASC/WCEA Accreditation Visit from 10/19-10/21. Our team of 4 members (administrators and teachers from other Catholic schools will be visiting our campus on Friday, 10/1 at 10:30 am for a pre-visit. Please welcome them! Mr. Steinmetz, one of our kind donors, will be on campus tomorrow, 9/28. Our students have thank you cards for him because he made their trips to Ocean Institute in Dana Point possible.
Pacific Toxicology will be back on campus next Monday for weekly COVID-testing. Please sign up for testing online each Thursday using the link sent to you and type in 1890 for our school code. The technician will be on campus every Monday moving forward from 7:30-8:30am for COVID-testing when school is in session. This is optional, but we ask that those students and staff who are unvaccinated get tested more often, at least once or twice a week. You must sign up every Thursday, in advance. This is for students and staff or parent volunteers who work on campus only.
Band for Today is offering band classes for woodwind and brass starting this Wednesday, 9/29. We need at least 6 people to sign up or the band class will be canceled. Detention will be on hold this and next week and will resume the week after Parent Conferences.
Last week we had our Virtual PLC Lead meetings (led by Leah Nakayama and Angelic Nunez-Scott) and Room Parent meetings (led by Lorena Lakey) on Zoom. Thank you to all the parents who joined our meeting and to all our parent volunteers who make our school amazing! We are still in need of volunteers for Yard Duty, Traffic Duty/Safety, and After School Care. If interested, please contact me. Thank you to all the Interior Maintenance PLC volunteers who cleaned this weekend.
Our Fall Fundraiser had its first Trojan Drawing on Wednesday, 9/22. The second and final one is on Wed, 10/6. Just a friendly reminder that your candy payments are due for all boxes checked out by TUESDAY, 9/28 at 3:30pm (instead of Monday due to no school) TO QUALIFY FOR TROJAN DRAWING AND TOP SELLER PRIZES. This is also a last call for families that have yet to pick up their chocolates. You will be billed the cost of the chocolate ($240) for non-pickup. We still have a few families that need to pick up. There are no additional boxes left for check out at this time. Final deadline for Chocolate sale payments is Friday, 10/1. You will be invoiced the week of 10/4 for late/missing payments.
Parent Conference Week is 10/4-10/8. We will have NOON DISMISSALS from October 4-October 8, 2021. Friday, 10/8 is a STUDENT FREE DAY from classes, but teachers will continue to schedule a full day of parent conferences. If you haven’t already done so, please sign up with your child’s teacher. All parents must set up a meeting with teachers next week. We always aim to work with you in partnership to ensure that your child is met where they are, and that they are receiving the best possible education that St. Anthony’s can provide. If you ever have any concerns, please bring it up to your child’s teacher first, and if something needs more attention, I am happy to join the conversation as well, to resolve any issues. We are partners in education, but you, as parents, are your child’s first teacher. We are here to help you in your goal to raise your children to be Followers of Jesus, Academically Prepared, Socially Aware, and totally healthy in mind, body and spirit. These are also our School-wide Learning Expectations, also known as our SLEs.
We will NOT have our annual Scholastic Book Fair in October, but we hope to bring it back sometime in the Spring. We do need parent volunteers for the Library and Book Fair. Please email me if interested.
This Friday, we welcome October, which is the month of the Rosary. A devotion to Our Blessed Mother is a tradition that has long been embraced here at St. Anthony’s and all of our teachers and students will be doing various activities this month in order to help instill this special prayer and relationship with Our Lady to our children. I invite you as well to spend time praying the Rosary this month and to keep in mind the many special intentions of our school families.

CEF INITIATIVE
The Catholic Education Foundation (CEF) was recently given a $5 million dollar grant from an anonymous donor. It is to help boost enrollment in Catholic Schools. We need everyone’s help in Marketing this to our parish families. If anyone is in the Publicity and Marketing PLC, we would love to have you help us promote this by speaking after weekend Masses or talking to Religious Education Families in English or Spanish to promote our school and this wonderful opportunity.
FAMILY INCOME SURVEY
Parents, please turn in your Family Income Survey Forms. All families are asked to complete this annually. One is a hard copy that the school uses for annual reports. This is due to the school by 9/28. The other one you will do online is due 10/18 to LAUSD to help us qualify for Title Services. It’s the same form. These numbers are important for us to be able to see our eligibility to receive federal and state programs and funds and grants from donors. Thank you in advance for your help! Your kids will get a free dress pass if they turn it in!
