Dear Students, Parents/Guardians,
We had Vision To Learn on campus last week and all students who did NOT opt-out got screened. The mobile eye clinic will be on campus from 9/20-9/26 next week for eye exams for those who wanted this service. All students who qualify will receive FREE eyeglasses, courtesy of the Shea Foundation!
The Keep Gardena Beautiful Day Service project was held this Saturday, 9/17. Thank you to Julia Arteaga for coordinating this event, and to all the families who came to help from 8am-12 Noon this weekend.
Catechetical Sunday was yesterday, 9/18. We enjoyed seeing you all at the 11am Monthly Family Mass yesterday. Students who wore their formal Mass uniforms to Mass can receive a Free Dress pass by taking a photo of themselves in full Mass uniform by the church and emailing their teacher that pic, after checking in with a staff member that day. Mr. Lynch is doing random uniform inspections on campus starting next week. Three (3) uniform infractions equal one detention. Please make sure your child is following all uniform guidelines starting next week.
Today is the Kindergarten class’s first FULL Day of school! They will begin eating lunch on campus and will be at school till 3pm daily, except till 1:30 on Wednesdays. PE and Music start this week for them as well. All K-8 students must be in full uniform this week. Thanks to the volunteers and those who donated uniforms to our Gently Used Uniform Sale last week. We raised $1361! Thank you, Patty Dungo and parents for all your support! Tomorrow 9/20 is the last day of STAR testing. Please make sure your child sleeps well and eats a good breakfast before testing.
Wednesday, 9/21, is our Mandatory Back to School Night in person in the Hall at 6:30pm. Non-participation will result in a $50 fine. Parents must be present the whole time from 6:30-8pm. Teachers will host 2 identical 15-minutes sessions in their classroom after our General Parent Meeting. Those with multiple children (more than 2 at the school), please coordinate with your child’s teacher. They can send you a slideshow presentation afterwards. Please find a sitter for your children if possible. Childcare will NOT be available that day because we don’t have enough volunteers. Please find a sitter. If you MUST come with your children they must stay with you the entire time in the hall and in the classrooms. There will be NO supervision outside. Vicki Marsha Uniform will be on campus that day in Rm 6, and we will also be passing out chocolates for our Fall Candy Sale that week in Rm 5. Raffle tickets will be given out starting tomorrow 9/20 for early pickups and on 9/21 to qualify for the chance to win a $100 gas card. The drawing will take place at the hall on Back to School Night.
On 9/28, Lorena Lakey will host a Room Parent meeting on Zoom. You will be discussing the upcoming Trunk or Treat event and class mandatory bake sales. Please sign up for the PLCs you would like to serve on (see Angelic Nunez Scott’s Google form) and begin earning your 10 service hours for the first trimester. Each family must serve 30 hours a year or donate items the school needs at a value of $15/hr. There are many opportunities to serve. We will email you those opportunities, and PLC leads will be at the meeting to recruit members to their committees.
9/30 is our Blue Mass in the church at 8am. It will be followed by a small reception/celebration in the hall for our first responders. 10/3 is the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 10am for our new school facilities. Bishop Marc Trudeau and our generous donors will be invited to this milestone event, where we will give school tours at the preschool and our school.
Parents, as a reminder, please do NOT pick your child up early without letting the office and teachers know beforehand. Do also pay special attention to the Truancy Policy in the Parent Student Handbook, as it relates to attendance.
In regards to safety, parents, please do not park illegally in crosswalks or the red zone. Gardena PD will be coming around to issue tickets and citations. Thanks for your cooperation.
RE: after school activities, children must be supervised at all times. If they are not picked up right after dismissal (15 minutes after school ends), they will be sent to Daycare and parents will be charged the daycare fees. Teachers of enrichment classes and sports coaches must pick up students from daycare and return them to daycare after their activity, if parents haven’t picked them up after their event. Thanks for keeping our kids safe!

By now, all students should have their uniforms. If not, please let your student’s teacher know. This week, we will start to enforce the uniform policy. Boys and girls should have hair that is neatly groomed. No extravagant hairstyles or colors, natural colors only. Boys with longer hair must not have it in their face or covering their eyes or ears. Girls should not have nail polish, dangling earrings (only one stud earring), or wear jewelry (only religious jewelry allowed). No excessive bracelets on arms, only one simple bracelet (like a rosary bracelet). No ankle socks allowed at all, or prints on shoes. 3 uniform infractions will result in a detention and that affects the Work Habits Grade and Citizenship. Please refer to the Parent Student Handbook for the proper uniform guidelines. Students may use Free Dress passes if an infraction is given, and they will be excused.
