Dear SAP School Families,
Happy MLK, Jr. Day! We remember a great leader today and his contributions to our society. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is admired and respected and we honor him for his life and legacy in the Civil Rights movement and for bringing hope to Americans in a peaceful way.
This past Saturday, we had our annual Kindergarten Round up. If you have a child in the preschool’s Yellow or Orange class across the street, or a rising Kindergartner at another school, please be sure to turn in your application for the Early Bird Kinder registration. We will continue to test applicants through February 2024, before we open spots up to the public on March 1. First come first serve, and we will cap the enrollment at 35 for next year. Don’t delay!
Our Folklorico group also represented our school so well at the MLK Gardena Parade on Saturday, 1/13. Martha Zambrano has done a wonderful job directing our students. We are so proud of our students and our parents for their support of this wonderful program. Our Boys Basketball A Team played at Verbum Dei this Saturday. They fought hard and also made us proud!
Please continue to keep Mr. and Mrs. Reyes in your prayers, as they are getting ready to welcome their first child into the world very soon. Their baby’s due date is February 1, but Baby Reyes can come at any time. We will keep you posted during this exciting time.
January 28 is our Annual Open House from 12-2pm, after our 11am All School Family Mass (students can earn free dress passes from their teachers if they come in Full Mass Uniform that day and check in with teacher). Open House kicks off National Catholic Schools’ Week from 1/28-2/3. Stay tuned for more updates about that week with special events and dress up days from our Student Government. We are excited to appreciate all the stakeholders in our community daily, and to have Friday 2/2, designated as Special Persons’ Day. Many may want to invite their grandparents to join their children at the school at our 10am Mass and lunch afterwards on 2/2 (either on or off campus) Adults attending will sign out children from school at the child’s classroom before Mass and are responsible for the children after they are signed out). Please let your child’s teacher know ahead of time, which adult 18 or over will be accompanying your child to Mass and lunch. 2/2 is a 12 noon dismissal with daycare till 6pm.
Keep in mind that our parish will be fixing the uneven pavement near the church, which is a safety hazard, from 1/29-2/1. The school had requested that the pavement be fixed over the Christmas break, but the company was not available. Know that we will do our best to ensure everyone’s safety, but we will need your cooperation during carline dropoff and pickup in the main parking lot during Catholic Schools’ Week. Do let everyone in your family know about these changes to the carline, so they are all aware of any changes. More info to come from Mrs. Jeah Avila, our Safety PLC lead.
To all 6th-8th grade boys and girls, Coach Jaime Cruz and Coach Claudia Guzman Cruz will be coaching our soccer team again this year with Mr. Tom Kuriki. They are offering a Soccer clinic starting this Tuesday and Thursday (1/16 and 1/18) after school from 3:30-5pm. We will cap it at 30 students. First come first serve. All students joining the clinic must actively participate. Those not participating will be sent to daycare for the daily charge. The soccer season is starting so tryouts will begin soon. Boys basketball practice is this Thursday from 3:30-5:30pm with a game at Verbum Dei on Saturday at 1pm.
Many Blessings,
Angela Grey, Principal
Gabriel Reyes, Co-Principal

IMPORTANT EARLY KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION!
If you have a child that will be entering Kindergarten next year and is NOT at St. Anthony’s Day Nursery – please contact me right away to let me know so I can include him/her on the early registration list. If your child is already at the Nursery School, you have already received info and should have turned in all applications. First come first serve. The Kinder Round Up was on 1/13/24. Open enrollment to the public starts 3/1/24.
INTERIOR MAINTENANCE PLC and SERVICE HOUR BUYOUT
Please sign up for the Interior Maintenance PLC for service hours that can be earned on certain Saturdays from 12:30-3:30 p.m. You can also donate Scrip at the front office for school expenses. You may buy out your service hours for $15/hour for Scrip, such as Home Depot, Office Depot, Target, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and Starbucks. Next year, the price goes up to $17/hr to keep up with inflation and CA’s minimum wage.
TEACHING TOUCHING SAFETY (TTS) FORMS
We are very happy each year to conduct the “Teaching Touching Safety” Classes to our students. This is a course that we teach by the end of January each year, and it covers an age-appropriate curriculum to bring awareness to students regarding issues of sexual abuse and dangers. It teaches them the lines of “appropriateness” within particular contexts and how to avoid and respond to possible situations that could endanger them. *PERMISSIONS SLIPS WERE SENT HOME BEFORE THE BREAK AND MUST BE RETURNED ASAP. We need 100% compliance.
MONTHLY EMERGENCY DRILLS
We recently had an emergency school safety drill; an intruder alert/lockdown drill. Our school has at least one safety drill per month. Please discuss procedures and your family’s plan with your children in the event of a fire, lockdown/intruder alert, or earthquake when they are at home.
VOLUNTEERS
All visitors on campus must check in and out of the office at all times and wear a VISITOR badge. All Volunteers must be Fingerprinted through the ADLA, cleared, and have a current Virtus Training Certificate. AM and PM carline and lunch yard duty volunteers (from 12-1 daily) are needed. Please email me at agrey@stanthonygardena.org if you are interested. For safety reasons, please call before you come to the office and buzz yourself in. Do not prop the door open for anyone, especially strangers. All parents are welcome to join the SAFETY PLC to increase security on our campus.
EARN ONE SERVICE HOUR FROM HOME!
Parents who review our school online on Yelp, Google, AND greatschools.org will earn up to one service hour after you send me your screenshots of all 3 sites as proof: to agrey@stanthonygardena.org.
