Dear SAP School Families,
First off, I want to thank you all for your powerful prayers for my husband, Mr. Grey. Thankfully, he is doing well now, and we will continue to follow up with his doctors to find out what happened to him on 2/18. I am just so overcome with gratitude for our faith community. Your love and support sustained me this past week, after that health scare.
Last week we hosted a principals’ deanery meeting in the hall and all our principals in Deanery 19 were so appreciative and impressed with our hospitality. Thank you to Amy Lucas Palanca and her wonderful Hospitality PLC team and our students for welcoming them to our school. Special thanks to Msgr. Sal, Mr. Aguilar, Pablo Flores, and Sarah Ray for hosting them in my absence.
Early Bird re-registration for returning families is now complete. Thank you for going online to register your children. You can still register, but it will be at a higher price. We are also opening up enrollment to the public, so please register so your child is not waitlisted. If there is a registration hold on your account, please do not register until you are cleared to do so by administration.
On Friday, February 23, our school had about 160 people from our school attend the Lion King Musical at Segerstrom in Costa Mesa. Thank you, Mrs. Jessica Garcia for coordinating a lovely family night! My family and I enjoyed the Broadway experience, and loved seeing St. Anthony families there. It was spectacular!
Last Friday our Yearbook Pre-Sale ended. The price will now go up to $45 for a hardcover book. Thank you, Ms. Sardinia and Mr. Farley for leading our Yearbook committee! We will officially announce the Yearbook cover winner on Wednesday at assembly.
This week is Read Across America Week! Our K-2 students will have the opportunity to dress up for this exciting week of celebrating literacy! For upper grades, please follow your child’s teachers’ directions.
Read Across America Dress up this week:
Mismatched Monday- Wear your craziest or mismatched socks
Top Hat Tuesday- Wear your favorite hat
Wacky Wednesday- Wear a wacky outfit or have a wacky hair
Book Character Thursday- Dress up as your favorite book character
Friday Festivities- Wear your formal attire or Sunday’s best dress
Mr. Reyes served on a WASC Visiting Committee last week. He is also taking paternity leave sporadically, so we will see him at school some weeks, and off for other weeks so he can spend time with his newborn baby girl, Bishop Cara. We were thrilled to have him back on campus on Friday at Mass on 2/23!
This Wednesday we have our school wide Spelling Bee in the Hall at 10:30 am on 2/28. Congratulations to our class winners! Each class has 2 winners and 1 alternate. Thank you, Ms. Klute for coordinating. Mrs. Dyogi and Ms. Patel will be assisting us in our Spelling Bee this week.
We will finish collecting items for our all school Lenten Service Project. All items are due on February 29. The goal is for each class to collect 100 of their class items. Thank you for your generosity and support of those less fortunate. These items will be delivered to the homeless through the 5th grade Lenten Project. Some of these people live on Skid Row in LA. Please keep our brothers and sisters in your prayers. Thank you for giving from the heart!
Every Friday in Lent we have our 1:30pm all school Stations of the Cross in the church. The Lenten Fish Fry and evening Stations of the Cross are every Friday in the church so you can attend with your family. Please see the church bulletin for more details. Knights of Columbus Fish Fry tickets are for sale after Mass on weekends and in the school office at $10 presale, $12 at the door.
As we finish up Black History Month, we celebrate all our heroes who have made a difference in our world!
On March 11, we have our Faculty Lenten retreat with Msgr. Sal. It will be Student Free Day, so NO SCHOOL for the students. We will be attending the matinee for the movie Cabrini after our retreat at Del Amo Mall, and we hope to see you and your families there. More info to come in a separate email.
Finally, we have invited Monica Harmon back to our school on March 20 to do grade level assemblies on Bullying Awareness and Prevention. We ask that you are also talking to your children about being kind every day to each other, and if they hurt someone, to ask for forgiveness. If someone hurts them, they can also forgive those people, as the Lord’s Prayer teaches us. Let’s continue to be forgive those who trespass against us this Lent.
Many Blessings,
Angela Grey, Principal
Gabriel Reyes, Co-Principal

INTERIOR MAINTENANCE PLC and SERVICE HOUR BUYOUT
Please sign up for the Interior Maintenance PLC for service hours that can be earned on certain Saturdays from 12:30-3:30 p.m. You can also donate Scrip at the front office for school expenses. You may buy out your service hours for $15/hour for Scrip, such as Home Depot, Office Depot, Target, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and Starbucks. Next year, the price goes up to $17/hr to keep up with inflation and CA’s minimum wage.
MONTHLY EMERGENCY DRILLS
Our school has at least one safety drill per month. Please discuss procedures and your family’s plan with your children in the event of a fire, lockdown/intruder alert, or earthquake when they are at home. Last week, we had an Intruder Alert/Lockdown drill. The students did a great job. Thanks to all our staff members and students for preparing our students. We ask them to always act like it’s real.
VOLUNTEERS
All visitors on campus must check in and out of the office at all times and wear a VISITOR badge. All Volunteers must be Fingerprinted through the ADLA, cleared, and have a current Virtus Training Certificate. AM and PM carline and lunch yard duty volunteers (from 12-1 daily) are needed. Please email me at agrey@stanthonygardena.org if you are interested. For safety reasons, please call before you come to the office and buzz yourself in. Do not prop the door open for anyone, especially strangers. All parents are welcome to join the SAFETY PLC to increase security on our campus.
EARN ONE SERVICE HOUR FROM HOME!
Parents who review our school online on Yelp, Google, AND greatschools.org will earn up to one service hour after you send me your screenshots of all 3 sites as proof: to agrey@stanthonygardena.org.
