Dear SAP School Families,
Last Wednesday we had our Annual All School Spelling Bee. Congratulations to all our classroom winners and alternates, and to our Top 3 overall winners! Special thanks to Mrs. Klute and Mr. Richardson, Ms. Patel, all our teachers, parents, and students for being wonderful supporters of our spellers!
Our Yearbook Pre-Sale has ended. The price is now $45 for a hardcover book. Thank you, Ms. Sardina and Mr. Farley for leading our Yearbook committee! We officially announced the Yearbook cover winner on Wednesday at assembly. Congratulations to Mayumiluz Bajenting for winning the Yearbook Cover contest!
Last week was Read Across America Week! Our K-2 students had fun dressing up for the exciting week of celebrating literacy! I got to read aloud to a few classes and it was just wonderful. Thank you to all our teachers for making sure our students grow in their love of reading.
Today, March 4, is Mr. Reyes’ baby girl’s one month milestone! Mr. Reyes is enjoying his family time with his wife and newborn and will be back from paternity leave after Easter Break, when I will be leaving with the 7th and 8th graders for Washington, DC from 4/8-4/12.
This Thursday, March 7, we have our school wide Talent Show in the Hall at 10:30am. We had to move it up, due to a scheduling conflict. We thank Mrs. Jessica Garcia for coordinating this wonderful event. All acts will have a rehearsal in the Hall on Wednesday, March 6, to prepare for the event.
We collected items last week for our all school Lenten Service Project. Thank you for your generosity and support of those less fortunate. Thank you, Ms. Genesis Garcia, and the 5th graders for spearheading Pauly’s Project and the Midnight Mission!
Every Friday in Lent we have our 1:30pm all school Stations of the Cross in the church. The Lenten Fish Fry and evening Stations of the Cross are every Friday in the church so you can attend with your family. Please see the church bulletin for more details. Knights of Columbus Fish Fry tickets are for sale after Mass on weekends and in the school office at $10 presale, $12 at the door.
This Friday, March 8, we look forward to seeing you all for our 2nd Trimester Mass and Awards Ceremony starting at 8am in the church. Students will get their report cards that day. March 5 is the last day of the 2nd trimester. Our 6th graders will be going to Santiago Retreat Center on March 14 and our 7th graders will be going to Catalina Island next week from March 15-17. Spring break is just around the corner, and we will prepare for our 8th graders’ retreat at Thousand Pines and the 7th and 8th grade trip to Washington, DC! We pray for everyone on their trips.
As we begin Womens’ History Month, we celebrate all the outstanding women who have made a difference in our world!
On March 11, we have our Faculty Lenten retreat with Msgr. Sal. It will be Student Free Day, so NO SCHOOL for the students. The teachers and I will be attending the 11:15am matinee for the movie Cabrini after our retreat at Del Amo Mall, and we hope to see you and your families there! Please note the movie is rated PG-13, so all students must be accompanied by an adult and viewing is at parental discretion for minors.
Finally, we have invited Monica Harmon back to our school on March 20 to do grade level assemblies on Bullying Awareness and Prevention. We ask that you are also talking to your children about being kind every day to each other, and if they hurt someone, to ask for forgiveness. If someone hurts them, they can also forgive those people, as the Lord’s Prayer teaches us. Let’s continue to forgive those who trespass against us this Lent and every day. The sacraments are calling us, so please make it a point to also go to Confession as a family. It’s a beautiful gift from our Lord!
Many Blessings,
Angela Grey, Principal

INTERIOR MAINTENANCE PLC and SERVICE HOUR BUYOUT
Please sign up for the Interior Maintenance PLC for service hours that can be earned on certain Saturdays from 12:30-3:30 p.m. You can also donate Scrip at the front office for school expenses. You may buy out your service hours for $15/hour for Scrip, such as Home Depot, Office Depot, Target, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and Starbucks. Next year, the price goes up to $17/hr to keep up with inflation and CA’s minimum wage.
MONTHLY EMERGENCY DRILLS
Our school has at least one safety drill per month. Please discuss procedures and your family’s plan with your children in the event of a fire, lockdown/intruder alert, or earthquake when they are at home. Last week, we had an Intruder Alert/Lockdown drill. The students did a great job. Thanks to all our staff members and students for preparing our students. We ask them to always act like it’s real.
VOLUNTEERS
All visitors on campus must check in and out of the office at all times and wear a VISITOR badge. All Volunteers must be Fingerprinted through the ADLA, cleared, and have a current Virtus Training Certificate. AM and PM carline and lunch yard duty volunteers (from 12-1 daily) are needed. Please email me at agrey@stanthonygardena.org if you are interested. For safety reasons, please call before you come to the office and buzz yourself in. Do not prop the door open for anyone, especially strangers. All parents are welcome to join the SAFETY PLC to increase security on our campus.
