Dear Kindergarten Families,
I hope this email finds you well. This past week our Kindergarten archaeologists mapped out their dig site and carefully excavated for treasure aka chocolate chunks. Everyone loved the Great Cookie Excavation!
We continue learning about our Earth and ways to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Everyone contributed their old crayons, prepped them for reuse by removing the paper, and I recycled them into new crayons by melting them in silicone molds in the oven at 275 degrees.
Earth Day is on Monday, 4/22. We invite you to help us celebrate by bringing in a small plant for our Kindergarten garden as a meaningful reminder of our responsibility to care for our planet.
Below are some updates regarding our class for this week, 4/22-4/26.
3rd Trimester Expectations
We are down to our last trimester! Here are some of the expectations that I am looking out for:
- All Kindergartens should know how to write their name clearly starting with a capital letter and followed by lower case letters.
- Starting EVERY sentence with an uppercase/capital letter.
- Using punctuation at the end of EVERY sentence and writing with appropriate spacing between words.
- All Kindergartners should be able to recognize all the letters of the alphabet and phonics.
- All Kindergarteners must be able to write neatly and form letters and numbers correctly, including proper pencil grip.
- All Kindergarteners must know the Sign of the Cross, Prayer before Meals and Guardian Angel Prayer.
- All Kindergarteners must follow classroom/restroom/playground rules, HFO, and school Tribes agreements without being reminded.
- All Kindergarteners should be able to submit their own work on Seesaw.
Progress reports
On Tuesday, April 23rd, I will be sending your child’s progress reports home via the green folder. I will be sending 2 copies, one copy must be signed & returned the next day and another copy for you to keep.
Please keep in mind that the progress report is just a snapshot of where your child is at right now. Final Grades will be given at the end of the 3rd trimester.
Gardena Mayme Dear Library in-class visit, Thursday, 4/25
We love books and reading! Over the past two weeks, everyone who turned in a completed application received their library cards. Let’s keep books in our readers’ hands.
We are grateful to the Gardena library, less than a mile from the school, for visiting Kindergarten and also providing our Solar Eclipse glasses. Ms. Edu, the children’s librarian, let me know our class has the MOST library cards. With that distinction, we are so blessed that she will be returning to our classroom for a read aloud and craft.
Mass with Mother Figures
On Friday, April 26, we will have “Mass with Mother Figures”, as an early Mothers’ Day Celebration. Mothers, grandmas, and aunties or other adult mother figures may come to Mass for a special blessing. Mother figures may sit next to their child behind our class.
Please note that Mother Figures are asked to attend Mass that day, but there will be no donuts or muffins after Mass. After Mass, classes will resume.
STAR Testing Window 3
The last STAR testing window runs from 4/29 – 5/28. This test will measure their knowledge from the 1st-3rd trimester. Please make sure that your child has enough sleep and a healthy breakfast before coming to school on testing days. Students will be using our school iPads to test in small groups with headphones to minimize distraction. More information to follow.
