Second Grade

Welcome to the Second Grade Home Page!

Ms. Hanmer is excited to become the second grade teacher and catechist at St. Anthony of Padua School this year! She was raised in the Mid-Atlantic and attended Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, graduating in 2014 with dual bachelor’s degrees in English and Sculpture.

She has always felt called to teach and views education as her ministry. During college, she worked in many educational settings: as a second grade aide and reading specialist with Americorps, as an early childhood education teacher, and as a writing tutor. Upon moving to Los Angeles in 2015, she was blessed with the opportunity to become the second grade aide at St. Anthony of Padua and gained valuable experience planning lessons and teaching in second grade, as well as tutoring and substituting in many grades. Ms. Hanmer is also working towards her elementary teaching credential at Mt. St. Mary’s University.

Ms. Hanmer has positive expectations for each child and holds students to high standards in the classroom. She enjoys learning along with her students and engaging them through a variety of teaching strategies, including group work, movement and drama, and guided inquiry activities.

Outside of school she enjoys art, sewing, and spending time outdoors with her husband.
